In the picture above, this is a basic network. Many things happen in the course of a client connecting to the internet depending on which kind of networking system you have connected to your laptop. One way which would be a wireless connection where the laptop uses a transmission medium through an antenna to connect to the internet. The second way would be a physical cable from the computer to an internet router which transfers information from the router to computer.
